Ian is currently a Sustainable Manufacturing student at CSU Chico. As a sophomore, he is also part of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, a club that takes ideas from concept to reality. Last year the club developed a mountainbike bashguard and chainguide system made of recycled plastic and CNC aluminum.
Ian began racing mountain bikes in 2006, joning the NRL team at the age of 13. He continued through the NorCal high school mountain bike league with many top 10 finishes, yet the podium proved ever elusive. After four years of NorCal, he became disillusioned by cross-country cycling, and began to experiment with gravity racing and dirt jumping, falling off the training wagon many times. Luckily, he found a bit of success there, falling on top of the podium once at a downhill event at El Toro Park in Monterey. Unfortunately, Ian severed ties with competitive mountain biking once he reached college, gravitating instead towards rock climbing and mucking about on local pump tracks. However, the competitive spark has once again been reignited inside of Ian, who recently aquired a new trail whip.
Looking to compete in the WCCC for Chico State in the fall of 2012, Ian is all sorts of excited to excel in cross-country, dual slalom and Super D. He is banking on his past experiences coupled with new skillslearned on and off the bike to be more competitive than ever. He will be competing in Men’s B category initially, with hopes to upgrade in the future.
